Christmas at Norlands
The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center in Livermore will open for a 19th century interactive Christmas celebration on December 2nd from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Journey back to the days of old and enjoy 19th century parlor games, mansion tours, stringing popcorn and craft activities in the cozy Norlands kitchen, caroling around the antique piano in the ladies’ parlor in the mansion, readings in the one-room schoolhouse, jingle bell wagon rides, fresh molasses cookies and mulled cider made on the woodstove, and the simply decorated Washburn mansion.A Cookie Walk is offered starting at 11:00 am. Fill a bag with delicious homemade cookies for only $5.00. Proceeds from the Cookie Walk will benefit the building fund.Kerck Kelsey, Washburn descendant and family historian, will share stories about Washburn family Christmases through the years. These talks take place at 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.A quilt made of vintage fabrics by the Livermore Village Scrappers and a basket of homemade chocolate goodies by Lucille Lavoie will be raffled at the end of the day. Proceeds also benefit the barn rebuilding fund.The event has been organized by a group of dedicated Norlands volunteers who have been studying Livermore history and the lifestyles of people in the late 1800’s.
